Since joining HMICS in 2014 as the teams Research and Inspection Support Officer, Jo has obtained and developed her analytical skills and creative expertise to significantly enhance the organisation’s inspection and design processes. Due to her skills and research in design, editing and formatting, HMICS now create all its own material in-house and this led to Jo’s promotion in 2018 to the role of Inspection Support and Design Manager.
In 2017, Jo collaborated closely with the Scottish Government's web development team to successfully relaunch the HMICS website with a modern design and updated software. In 2024, she undertook a second overhaul of the website, partnering with an external company to ensure the platform meets current standards. Her responsibilities encompass managing and curating HMICS’s online content, ensuring it maintains a consistent, high-quality corporate style, while also developing innovative design solutions and visual aids for the organisation’s publications.
In addition to her design responsibilities, Jo plays an integral role in planning and organising inspections, liaising with key stakeholders including Police Scotland, the Scottish Government, and the Scottish Police Authority.
Jo is also trained in Freedom of Information (FOI) and Data Protection, and is part of the team responsible for handling requests sent to HMICS.
